The stage is unsightly. The crowd is roaring so loud that ear plugs are necessary, even before the show starts. The arena is overwhelmed with the scent of human odor, fog machine juice, and multiple energy drinks. The night is perfect, and just when you’re taking all of this in, the first chord is struck and the stage becomes engulfed by a bright white light, just as if the gates of heaven have opened up right in front of you. At this time the fans are going fanatic, but imagine it from my view point; the one that set up the whole concert experience, the one on stage who struck that first note. My name is Zachary Paul and music is truly my life; music has made me who I am.
I am from a small town called Marine City (Southeast of Port Huron), Michigan. I grew up in a nice urban house with my mom, dad, and older brother. I am a well rounded person. I enjoy many things like: family, friends, religion, and just being myself, but music is my passion. I am an easy guy to get along with. I am a very energetic, happy person, but in a good self controlled way. I’m usually the guy at concerts going crazy, singing every lyric with all my heart and soul, or on the other hand if I am performing, I’m the wild guitarist/ singer who gets the crowed pumped and energized. I tend to put all that I have into my performances because I can be myself when I’m on the stage.
I believe I am blessed with a very powerful gift called music. I love and appreciate my gift so much, but I want to share my gift with others because it is so wonderful. The way I share my gift with others is by doing benefit shows/ concerts. In the eighth grade in my first band, I signed my band up for a battle of the bands at a Relay for Life event; the talent/act that raised the most money for a cure for cancer won, and my band did. Shortly after I organized an annual concert at my church to benefit a Christian camp in Fairview, Michigan called “Michi-Lu-Ca, Rock’n Roll Camp”. The first year we rose over $8,000 for the camp, so they could buy better recording equipment. Just recently my band was apart of a benefit concert to raise awareness for domestic violence, in which we sold the most amount of tickets out of the 15 bands that night. Music is a powerful tool to reach people with, and I don’t plan to stop using that tool.
As I mentioned before I am in a band, actually I was in several bands (a total of eight). All the bands I was and currently a part of, I was and am the manager for. Which means I booked all of my bands shows, I kept the fans/ friends informed on shows and upcoming events, I created and organized all the websites/ networking pages, I made flyers to hand out at shows, I organized shows at different venues, scheduled recording dates and times, budget money, set up practices, and much more; and the reason I was the manager for all eight of the bands was because I loved doing it, and still do. I wanted to get all sides of the music industry. Music isn’t a hobby it’s a lifestyle for me.
Of course everyone loves music, and everyone has a favorite genre; whether it may be: country, rock, hip-hop, pop, classical, alternative, techno, opera, etc. Well for me it’s different. I love all kinds of music. I appreciate the different sounds and rhythmic patterns. That is why on guitar I can play classical, to jazz, to even hard rock; as well on vocals; I can sing classical pieces and even show choir compositions. Also I know a few other instruments as well, like: bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele, drums, and a little piano. The reason I know as much as I do is because of my love and desire for music. I want to be great at my gift. I want to learn more about music; about music business. I want to use my talent to the fullest, because music is my life. Music is who I am.
