Chamberlain Square future revealed as Paradise plans set for go

New images showing the future for Chamberlain Square have been revealed as long awaited plans for the first phase of the Paradise scheme are set for the go ahead.

Proposals for the first phase of the million scheme which is the most important of its kind in Birmingham city centre, including the first two buildings, are expected to be given the green light by councillors next week.

The proposals also outline plans to remodel Chamberlain Square, including drastic alterations to the public realm. They include plans for granite steps and seating, as well as new trees and hedges for Chamberlain Square and the new "Centenary Way" the proposed east to west route to Centenary Square.

Three applications will go before Birmingham City Council's planning committee on Thursday (17th) which the council says stand to deliver "transformational redevelopment".

The documents, drawn up by council officers, state: "The new high quality and simple landscaping of Chamberlain Square allows the buildings to command attention and better presents the city's finest architectural masterpieces and therefore fully supports the application.

"The proposal will preserve or enhance the setting of nearby listed buildings and listed Chamberlain Memorial and the character of the Conservation Area."

Public realm work for Chamberlain Square includes granite seats and steps, yew hedges and three large Honey Locust trees.

The work relies on a vast amount of demolition work which has been Ray Ban Aviators Polarized slow to progress including Central Library and the Birmingham Conservatoire building.

The work also includes the new Centenary Way which forms part of plans to improve pedestrian access across the city.

The documents state: "The proposed development aims to build upon the strengths of this existing public space and improve its overall design quality.

"Therefore, the amphitheatre arrangement has been retained in part with feathered seating curving around the retained fountain."

The plans are part of the ten year Paradise masterplan aims to transform 17 acres of some of the most central land in Birmingham city centre.

The scheme aims to create 1.8 million sq ft of offices, shops, cafes, restaurants and a hotel.

The phase one proposals also outline plans for buildings D and E of the Paradise scheme also known as One and Two Chamberlain Square.

The 228,000 sq ft Building E is a proposed nine storey block with almost 170,000 sq Ray Ban Aviators ft of office space and more than 14,000 sq ft designated for retail use.
